"Storm in Glace Bay" is an original oil painting by artist Catherine Moir. It depicts crashing waves on the coastline of Glace Bay, a former coal mining town in Cape Breton.
Catherine Moir is an experienced landscape artist and part of the art community in Cape Breton. Born in Halifax, Catherine attended Nova Scotia College of Art and Design where she learned drawing and painting. She also studied figure drawing at St. Mary’s University and the University of Alberta. Catherine moved from Halifax in 1984 to live in Cape Breton permanently, painting the landscape, buildings and figures. She works en plein air and then in her own studio outside her home in Eastern Cape Breton. For the past several years, Catherine has been the coordinator for the Art of Living program which has an exhibition every summer at the Centre with established artists and cancer patients.
