Three Sisters is a caring companion planting technique used by the Iroquois; planting occurs during the planting moon. Corn is first, then beans. Beans will climb and support the corn stalk. Then squash was planted; the large leaves would shade the ground keeping weeds down and reduce watering. Also known as CBS; corn, beans and squash – The Three Sisters. With modern technology, we now know the beans fixed nitrogen into the soil for corn.
